Thankful that the skies have cleared up, I made my way to attend the Yummy Weekend in Salcedo Village, Makati City. I have been anticipating this event for about a month, and since brother wasn’t around, I had no choice but to be there alone. Actually, it was my brother who’s more of a foodie than I am. He was the one who had the cooking magazine collection, and although I cook, I only cook for my family, and friends - when needed.

We live awfully far from the place (I had to travel about 2 hours), so I decided to leave the house early, just so I could get there early. Even though I worked in the area sometime ago, I just suck with directions, and even if brother sent me a very simple direction on how to get to the park, I still end up getting lost in the urban jungle of Makati City. From Ayala Avenue, I walked until I reached J.P. Rizal, and I was getting hungry and getting tired. I felt so st*pid when I decided to take a taxi and within seconds I was already in the market. Not only that, the taxi driver ripped me off my money by refusing to give me my change! Oh well… at least I still made it to the place in one piece and hopes still up. Fresh from the Italianni’s Bloggers’ Event a few days before, I was expecting to have the same type of an event, but it was completely different from what I expected.

Ticket

So, here’s how it went. Customers are given a ticket (for free) with six slots for stickers. What the customer will do is to check out the booths that has the Yummy Magazine poster and should the customer buy the featured dish or the specialty dish of the booth, the customer will earn a sticker. One sticker will earn a customer a magazine, 2 stickers = magazine plus fridge magnet, 4 stickers = magazine plus apron, and 6 stickers = magazine plus bag. There were 10 booths that participated the event, 20 food items to choose from!

My goal was to get the apron because I loved that “I’m Yummy” text printed on it. I circled the whole market place one time, asking the staff about the dishes, and on my second round, I bought some foods. Choosing the last dish was the toughest for me, because I wanted to create balance between the foods I bought. Some were a bit expensive for my wallet, but in the end here were the foods I bought:

Pizza Di Grazzia
*** Creamy Corned Beef Linguine from Pizza Di Grazzia ***

Tita Ope
*** Spinach Lasagna from Tita Ope (their Yummy Food was Summer Fruit Salad, but I have to travel back home and I was afraid the fruits might get stale, so I bought their house specialty)

La Cuisine
*** Red Rice Salad with Cashew Nuts, Dried Mangoes and Carrots from La Cuisine ***

Vargas Kitchen
*** Summer Mango Mousse from Vargas Kitchen ***

The corned beef pasta I ate in their eating area because I still haven’t had my breakfast and it was nearly lunch time. I took home the spinach lasagna (for my sister - she requested a pasta dish) as well as the other two dishes. I loved that spinach lasagna - very creamy and delicious! If ever I get back here, I will surely buy that one again.

I got to take home a back issue of their magazine as well as the apron - in pink. Why? Not only it looked better than the brown one, I am sure my brother would not take it away from me because it would be too awkward for him to wear hot pink, right? I still haven’t used it, but for sure, when I get to wear it, I will take a few snapshots to brag it. =)

I might not able to take home the bag (because I cannot buy two more dishes, no more money for that), but it’s okay. I am happy with my apron. Actually, I also got to take home something from the event, a papparazzi shot of the magazine’s editor-in-chief, Becky Kho:

Becky Kho

I actually didn’t realize it was her if not for her ID, and she was a bit busy, so even if I wanted to have a photo-op with her, I am a bit shy to approach her. This picture made my brother so jealous because he’s a big fan of the magazine and the fact that he wasn’t able to check out this event is already a big disappointment for him (he already lives in the countryside). I just hope Ms. Kho won’t be angry at me for posting this picture; in a way, I am also proud of myself for taking this one.

The fried rice dish I took home was so delicious. I was thankful that the back issue I got featured this dish, and one of these days sister and I will re-create it. To view all the pictures from this day, please click HERE. Happy weekends!
