Manila Cathedral

Wow, I can’t believe it’s weekend once again! My story and photos for today were taken (still) last fathers’ day, when we all (mom, sis, and I together with Uncle Pete, his family and cousin Joyce) celebrated a great day checking out the Manila Ocean Park.

It was just about lunch time when we finished checking out the park, so none of us still wanted to go home. Uncle Pete asked me where we will go next, but I really had no other things in mind. When I thought of going to Fort Santiago, Uncle Pete already thought about checking out the “Governor’s House.” I still haven’t heard of such place, and Uncle Pete said it had been so long since he last checked it out. Since his family will be migrating to the US, he wanted his kids to see several places in Manila before they leave so his kids will have a piece of Manila to take with them.

We had some problems with directions because Uncle Pete was talking about a big house (he said it was a mansion), yet the people he asked were talking about a building. When we reached the place, it was indeed a building - Palacio del Gobernador (the Governor’s Palace), which is now the head office of Commission on Elections. It used to be the office of the Governor during the Spanish Era. Seeing that things have changed and that the Manila Cathedral is just nearby, we decided to check it out instead.

There was a wedding at that moment, but the guard had let us enter the cathedral, only that we were not allowed to roam around. My cell phone died on me and that we didn’t have any digital camera, so I was a bit sad that I cannot take that much pictures. Uncle Pete asked his daughter Catleya to lend me their digital camera so I could take some pictures. He knew how crazy I am with pictures and that he knew I am a blogger. Without their kindness and generosity, this blog entry will surely not come to life. However, their camera’s memory indicated only 35 pictures left to shoot. Aunt Imelda asked me to delete some pictures should I need more space, but I cannot just delete pictures, for I know they don’t really transfer pictures from camera to PC, and I don’t want to delete pictures that they might need in the future.

Since we were seated at the back and that I didn’t have that much memory to “spend,” I only took a few pictures:

Manila Cathedral
*** The facade. I don’t know why it had more space below. ***

Manila Cathedral
*** A shot inside the cathedral. ***

Manila Cathedral
*** A closed-up shot of the altar. I had to zoom about 8 times to get this, and I still wasn’t able to get it good. ***

Manila Cathedral
*** Cousins Catleya, Joyce, and Melissa posing by the monument of the King of Spain the time the church was built. ***

Like what my title says, this is just a sneak peak. I wasn’t able to get important information about the church. Good news is that on August 09, I will meet with some of the photo enthusiasts who are part of Litratong Pinoy and we will have a heritage photo shoot around Manila that will include this church. For sure, next post about this church will be more informative, and yes, with lots of pictures.
