Macanlaoan Port

This port, although not that much of a beauty is very important for the people residing in Santiago Islands in Bolinao, Pangasinan. This is just one of the ports surrounding the island, and when I was a kid, this is where we get on and off from the island. Nowadays, since many of the locals have purchased tricycle (a local mode of transportation made from a motorcycle with an attached side car), this port has no longer available for passenger boats. If you want to ride a boat, you have to go to another port. This entryway is still open, but only for private boats, or if you rent a boat by yourself and ask the driver to be dropped off here.

It’s not really a good place to swim because of the moss and seaweeds, but if you walk around by the sides of the island, there are parts where people can swim. Just be sure you wear your flip flops or rubber sandals because there are so many edgy stones in the island shore, and with the fish cages nearby, oysters and mussels have also multiplied, hence aside from the stones, seashells can also injure your feet should you want to swim.

The place may not be as beautiful as it may seem, but for me it’s beautiful. Not only can you access the island and the main land through this port, the free oysters scattered all over the island shore is something so priceless. I don’t eat oysters really, but whenever I flip a stone and see an oyster, I become this child who just found a toy inside a box of cereal.
