weekend snapshots

Me

After getting my apron and magazine at the Yummy Magazine booth, I was more than willing to go home because I bought some foods, and that my legs and feet were already aching from walking. It was high noon as well, it was really easy to get tired and get thirsty. However, as I get my prizes, I noticed something on the other side of the park and it looked like rows of galleries. Seeing that people just pass by the area freely, I thought might as well drop by, after all, I am already there, and free art exhibits don’t really come everyday.

Although tired, I still managed to take a good look at the art pieces. I cannot help but be overwhelmed at how much talents these Filipino artists have! Well, I don’t even know how to draw Garfield’s head even with a step-by-step guide! I guess when the heavens showered talents in art, I was sleeping soundly in my bed. Hehehehe…

Anyway, I was so happy that I passed by the art exhibit because I was able to see two celebrities, Valerie Tan - a magazine show host, and Robert Alejandro - an illustrator. No words could express how happy I was seeing Robert Alejandro, although he isn’t a favorite, I have always admired his talent since I started collecting the stationeries and other paper products from their family store, Papemelroti. Actually, I circled the exhibit thrice because I was building up a confidence to have a picture with him. Luckily, I found my opportunity, and he was so nice and friendly to have a picture taken with me.

He was very sweaty probably because of the heat and the stress (positive one, if I may say so) brought about the event. Still, I consider this picture priceless. I am thinking of having this one framed! =)

I learned from one of the artists of Art Wednesday that they usually do this twice a year because having group of artists come together to do a free exhibit is a great way of getting their visions across, and this exhibit next to a weekend market right in the heart of the central business district of Makati City, is really a great place to do business. Lots of posh condominium units and lots of rich foreigners passing by who really loves buying art pieces. I actually saw a yuppie (young professional) who was in his jogging gear issuing a check for a painted plate worth 75 thousand pesos! Wow! Impressive.

Lots of great art works, but here are my top three, in no random order, of course.

Art Exhibit
*** a metal sculpture by ral arrogante. tell me, who would’ve thought that a faucet knob can be a look like a praying mantis’ head? ***

Art Exhibit
*** an illustration by robert alejandro. i love artworks that speak about filipino culture, and nothing beats that jeepney! for those who don’t know, that jeepney is a local mode of transportation here in the philippines. ***

Art Exhibit

If you want to take a look at the rest of the pictures I captured, please click HERE. Hope we all have a great week ahead.
