Analysis on pot fume desulfurization technology of aluminum reduction cells

During the operation process of reduction cells, the sulfur in carbon electrode will be oxidized to form SO_2 to be mixed with the pot fume. Given the increasingly-stringent environmental requirements, the pot fume desulfurization is gradually put on the agenda. China is recognized as a big aluminium producer, and considering the urgency of environmental protection policies, many Chinese aluminium smelters adopt desulfurization technologies of traditional industries in the aluminium industry regardless of cost and cause some wastes as a result. Through brief introduction and comparison, the paper presents various technologies that may be used in pot fume desulfurization both at home and abroad, and analyzes the feasibility of the application of these technologies to the pot fume desulfurization. Based on the discussion results, some proposals are put forward for the selection of the pot fume desulfurization technical plans.
