Screening of Serum in Patients Allergic to Tropomyosin of Mangrove Crab (Scylla serrata)

In order to get epidemiologic data of food allergy of Jimei University students and supply some references for the study of food allergy,4 000 questionnaires to the students were distributed .In addition,the relationship between allergenic foods and symptoms was analyzed.3 890(97.3 %) effective questionnaire responses were received.1 149 students(29.5 %) had suffered food allergy once at least,and 545 of them(about 47.4 %) were to aquatic products.31 students(about 5.7 % of those who suffered aquatic product allergy and 11.3 % of those who suffered crab allergy) showed a positive reaction to the crab by the ELISA test.There was no statistic difference in incidence between sexes.The students allergic to crab,shrimp,seashell and fish had similar symptoms,mostly as rash and skin-tickle.This survey showed that crab,shrimp,seashell and fish were the major allergenic food of aquatic products.Food specific IgE levels were significantly increased in allergic patients.The detection was convenient,safe and accurate by use of ELISA,suggesting that the measurement of food specific IgE in patients with allergy might be useful for its diagnosis,prevention and treatment.
