Determination of Worn Copper in Lubricating Oil by ICP - AES after Incineration

Li Ping (Chongqing Yiping Lubricant Co. Sinopec, Chongqing 400039)  
Dissolution of lubricating oil after incineration with HCI the interference of coexistent elements Ca Mg Zn P Fe can be eliminated by addition of NaCl solution as matrix buffer, then the worn copper is determined by ICP - AES. The recovery percentage of sample is in the range of 97% ~ 104% , the relative standard deviation varies from 2. 19% to 6. 12% (n = 8) . The determined results are alike to those by ASTM D5185 for different type samples.
