The Influence of Group Psychological Intervention to Test Anxiety and Mental Resilience on Middle School Students

Objective To explore the effects of group psychological intervention to test anxiety and mental resilience on middle school students. Methods Test anxiety scale and mental resilience scale were used to measure 84 middle school students in a certain area of Shanghai. School students were randomly divided into two groups. Students in control group conducted normal mental health course, and students in experimental group conducted group psychology counseling for once a week in addition to normal mental health course. All the students were measured with test anxiety scale and mental resilience scale before and one week after intervention. Results There were no significant differences on the average score of test anxiety scale and each factor score between the two groups before intervention(P 0. 05). There was significant difference on anxiety score between the two groups( P 0. 05). There was no significant difference on test anxiety score before and after intervention in control group(P 0. 05). There was significant difference on test anxiety score before and after intervention in experimental group(P 0. 01). There were no significant differences on mental resilience score and each factor score between the two groups before intervention(P 0. 05). There were significant differences on emotional control, positive cognition and total scores( P 0. 01). There were no significant differencs on family support and interpersonal assist(P 0. 05). There were no significant differencs on each factor and total scores before and after intervention in control group(P 0.05). There were significant differencs on focus,emotional control,positive cognition,family support,interpersonal assist and total scores(P0.05). Conclusion Group psychological counseling can effectively improve the level of mental resilience of middle school students and significantly reduce test anxiety.
