Hot top casting technology of large size 4032 aluminum alloy round ingot for extrusion

Qi Haidong;Yang Jian;Liu Minzhang;Qinghai Baihe Aluminum Co., Ltd.;Qinghai Qiaotou Aluminum & Power Co., Ltd.;  
The composition of 4032 aluminum alloy was optimized, and the difficulties of melting and casting large size 4032 aluminum alloy round ingot were pointed out. The paper analyzed the feeding sequence and charging mode, control of melting temperature, melt refining inside the furnace and modification process for the melting of 4032 aluminum alloy, as well as the hot top casting process for large size round ingot, then the round ingot with a diameter of 605 mm which meet extrusion requirements was produced. At last, problems that should be noticed during its melting and casting process were put forward.
