Progress in alkali extraction of alumina from fly ash

Fly ash is one of the main industrial solid wastes of coal-fired power plants in China, which is rich in a large amount of aluminum resources. Extracting Al_2O_3 from fly ash can not only reduce the pollution caused by fly ash emissions to the environment, but also alleviate the shortage of bauxite resources and the low grade of bauxite in China, and realize the high value-added utilization of fly ash. Several typical processes for alumina recovery from fly ash by alkali method are summarized in this paper. They are divided into sintering process and alkali dissolution process. The principles, processes, advantages and disadvantages of different processes are analyzed, and the comparative analysis of different processes is made. The development direction of alkali recovery of Al_2O_3 in the future is put forward.
