The Review of Urban Renewal Policy and Practice in Hong Kong:Case Study of Tsuen Wan and Kwun Tong Town Center Projects

Hong Kong is a world-class city with highly intensive population,urban renewal is one of the main content of its urban planning and construction.The work of carrying out the urban renewal faces a lot of troubles by the reason of increasingly serious urban aging problems and multipartite benefits of government,developers and local residents.This article reviews the development history of Hong Kong post-war urban renewal and concludes the content and characters of each period.It also analyzes the reforms of urban renewal strategy and administration by introducing the Tsuen Wan and Kwun Tong Town Center Projects,especially the urban renewal experiences of emphasizing the sustainable development and public participation since the Urban Renewal Authority founded in 2001.This article provides references for present urban development in mainland.
